Indoor Paint: 5 Tips to Ensure a Perfect Finish
Tuesday, March 27, 2018

The interior of the house is probably more important than the exterior when it comes to the selection of paints for it. Since the outdoor colors will be seen by other people while you have to live with the ones on the inside, it is important to make them as aesthetically pleasing as you can. However, there are factors other than just the contrast and colors that make a coat of paint look pleasing. Laps, cracks and uneven coats are just some of the things that spoil the entire effort that you put into a paint job.

Irrespective of whether you’re painting the indoors yourself or having it done by a specialist, it is important to be aware of a few basic tips in order to save yourself from a heartbreaker when the job is done.

1. Determine and prep the areas that require a paint

Be very specific and pin point the areas that require a coat of paint. This allows you to avoid buying excess amounts and making proper arrangements in terms of the material and furniture or other items that need to be moved.

Once you’ve determined and cleared the area, inspect it carefully for any uneven surfaces and cracks that would require sanding and caulking to ensure beautiful and smooth finishes in the end.

2. Buy high quality paints

This is one of the most important parts of a paint job. The actual material and paints that go on to your walls have to be of the highest quality because it is not every day that you have these surfaces painted. Low quality or counterfeit paints not only destroy the appeal of the paint coat but also cost you more because they last much less than standard or high quality paints.

3. Ascertain the amount of paint and have it mixed in one large bucket

Since you know the area to be painted in the first step, you should calculate the amount of paint needed to cover the area. Once you know the required amount of paint, mix all the paint you need in one bucket in order to ensure that you have a consistent color throughout. Although painters are specialized handymen that know the craft, it is possible that they screw up the mixing at some point by messing up the quantity of thinner or water. Only if you’re satisfied that you’re painter is good at what he does, you should allow them to mix the paint separately.

4. Use masking tape to ensure perfect edges

Brushes have bristles and if you’re having a large area painted even professional painters sometimes forego the importance of keeping a clean edge on the corners. In order to avoid this use masking tape to ensure that other adjoining materials stay safe from the paint coat.

5. Know the basic techniques and inspect coats carefully

There are a number of tips and techniques that come in handy and that a person should while painting or having the indoors of a house painted. Some of these include using a roller and paint grid instead of a tray. The coats have to be applied from top to bottom in one continuous role, etc. Be sure that you are present while the painter works so that they may know that you take the work seriously.

Indoor paints are for your eyes mostly and require relatively more attention than an exterior paint mostly. That doesn’t however; mean that you neglect the outdoor coat completely. After all, what is a house without the colors?
